Soft skills play a significant role when you are going for an interview. Couple of weeks ago, I was appeared for an interview. That interviewer asked so many soft skills questions such as:

(1) Describe how you developed relationships with others when you were new on your current/ most recent job.
(2) Describe a situation when one of your decisions was challenged by higher management; what did you do and how did you react?
(3) Give me an example of how you handled a very tense situation at work.
(4) Tell me about a time when you had difficulty getting others to work together on a critical problem and how you handled it.
(5) Describe a problem you faced that was almost overwhelming and how you got through it and kept from being completely overwhelmed.

I guess, hard skills are important but without soft skills it's a bit difficult task to answer these above mentioned questions with ease.

Hard skills are important but not as important as soft skills.

Good luck for this soft skills webinar. I am gonna attend it for damn sure.

Thanks

Re: Barriers to Effective Communication

Ray, Thank you for sharing these wonderful points. The trend is changing these days. the world is going global. the market is an open place for everyone and that's a reason why organizations are looking for candidates who would represent them on global stage. In other words, they look for "Society's Cream".

Thank You
Adil

Re: Barriers to Effective Communication

Thanks Piron for your wonderful post.

Undoubtedly, Soft skills make the whole difference. I have got some points while going through a blog post. So, I thought I can share it with everyone.

Here are some tips, on how to improve our Interpersonal Skills.

Smile

Few people want to be around someone who is always down in the dumps. Do your best to be friendly and upbeat with your coworkers. Maintain a positive, cheerful attitude about work and about life. Smile often. The positive energy you radiate will draw others to you.

Be appreciative:

Find one positive thing about everyone you work with and let them hear it. Be generous with praise and kind words of encouragement. Say thank you when someone helps you. Make colleagues feel welcome when they call or stop by your office. If you let others know that they are appreciated, they’ll want to give you their best.

Pay attention to others

Observe what’s going on in other people’s lives. Acknowledge their happy milestones, and express concern and sympathy for difficult situations such as an illness or death. Make eye contact and address people by their first names. Ask others for their opinions.

Practice active listening

To actively listen is to demonstrate that you intend to hear and understand another’s point of view. It means restating, in your own words, what the other person has said. In this way, you know that you understood their meaning and they know that your responses are more than lip service. Your coworkers will appreciate knowing that you really do listen to what they have to say.

Bring people together

Create an environment that encourages others to work together. Treat everyone equally, and don't play favorites. Avoid talking about others behind their backs. Follow up on other people's suggestions or requests. When you make a statement or announcement, check to see that you have been understood. If folks see you as someone solid and fair, they will grow to trust you.

Re: Barriers to Effective Communication

I agree to Nick.
Soft skills are extremely helpful in personal as well as corporate life.

Re: Barriers to Effective Communication

Soft skills have become very important these days. It depends person to person. Recently, I had a word with one of the educators and trust me he is enjoying his work to the fullest.

He said "I see how technology has grown up, whenever we face any challenge it gets vanished with ease because technology is getting advanced day by day. Even students love to be imparted in unique style".
And, From learners point of view, it has simplified learning process. there is no time boundary, students can learner anywhere, anytime with the help of recorded videos and immense study material and the cost is definitely less than what they used to pay in traditional learning.

In other words, E-learning is rocking, flourishing, and embracing every sphere, miraculously.

I would be glad if you could share any incident linked with the above questions you asked.

Cheers

Re: Arrival of booming learning methodologies!!!

What, if any deficiencies, does anyone know of that are related to virtual learning technology, instructional designs and methods, students, or the costs of virtual learning.

Re: IFRS Adoption, an opportunity for Accounting Professionals

Thanks for this wonderful post!!!

Re: Pedagogical world’s a stage; e-learning is a player

Thank you very much Mr. Samuel.
Cheers

Re: Pedagogical world’s a stage; e-learning is a player

Great Insight

Re: Arrival of booming learning methodologies!!!

Thank you very much, Shruti !!!
Keep on visiting our blog.
Cheers
